Scott & Melissa's Wedding
A magical setting for the winter wedding of Scott and Melissa was provided at Lake Okataina nestled amongst New Zealand’s rugged landscape and bushland.
Their day was a beautiful winter’s day with a touch of rain and mist that only added to the magical atmosphere.
Scott and Melissa wanted the rustic natural elements of the surroundings and native bushland to come through in all aspects of their wedding.
Being Scott's sister I was honoured to be asked to create him and Melissa's wedding cake.
They chose to have a three tiered cake in three different flavours; a decadent dark chocolate cake with an espresso infused buttercream, a moist white chocolate cake with a vanilla buttercream and a dark chocolate cake lathered with a mint buttercream.
Both are huge lovers of the country and keen hunters, so Scott and Melissa’s wishes for their wedding cake were simply a deer/stag theme. They left the final design up to me so I was extremely lucky I was able to create something that I thought they would love and that complemented the rest of the decor and theme used in the rest of the wedding.
The florist (mum) used natural fresh florals of silver sea holly, fine gum leaves and navy viburnum berries to make a wreath that decorated the base of the bottom tier. Scott and Melissa wanted to stick to the natural shades of greens and whites for their floral arrangements for both the bouquets and table-scapes. The simple wreath made around the cake was absolutely perfect.
They chose Okataina Lodge to hold their wedding ceremony and reception. Looking out over the glossy lake surrounded by the native bushland, they had the perfect atmosphere they wished for.
