My son Mason’s wilderness themed bash was so much fun, I knew I wanted to incorporate Mason’s love of the bush/outdoors into his first Birthday bash. I wanted his cake to be rustic and fun, he just loves animals so I knew I had to have them somehow on his birthday cake. He had bears wolves, foxes, moose and deer carved into cake like it had been carved into a tree, with a wooden "one" cake topper which finished it off perfectly. The cake inside matched the plaid elements throughout the party. To all the cakers out there, I used Sugar Geeks tutorial to achieve that! I did'nt quite do it justice (my plaid was a bit wonky oops) but ultimately I was happy with the end result because as all the kids (and adults) loved it and the whole thing got eaten!! We got mason a beautiful handmade wooden gun for his first present as his daddy and the rest of our family are super keen hunters, it even had his name and first birthday date stamped into it along with his own gun licence! We had our friend Troy Baker from Troy Baker Photography to take all the photos for us. He captured all the special moments through out the party for us to look back on and cherish. I was lucky to have been able to make such a sweet cake for a My Little Pony themed baby shower.
For the pretty cake, I marbled the fondant with a rainbow effect of colours to match the my little pony ''Rainbow Dash'' finished with an illustration on the cake designed by artist Kelli Murray's which was used for the baby shower Invitations. The flavour of the cake was lucious Pink Lemonade. A Zestly lemon cake filled with a raspberry buttercream and fresh raspberries. A little insight into the sequences/time that goes into my hand painted cakes.. This wild boar was for a surprise Country Calendar themed 50th Birthday Cake
Sweet Fairy Tales is a collaboration of sugar artists to re-create some of your favorite Nursery Rhymes into sugar! All proceeds go directly to Project Night Night A wonderful non-profit that provides blankets, a stuffed animal and a book to children in need. See the full gallery on www.sweetfairytales.org Book is available for purchase through Amazon. I chose the rhyme Two Birds because I’ve always been drawn to birds and wildlife. I pictured two little birds who had flown away, now cosied up together looking down at the stone, all alone surrounded by the forest. The silver eye birds are native to my country so I knew I wanted to have the cake photographed in our New Zealand bushland which to me is like an enchanted forest. I tried several times creating a cake by painting the birds with a more animated look and nursery rhyme feel, but I failed miserably and couldn’t adapt to that style. In the end I stuck to what I know and do best and painted the silvereye birds in a realistic style which is my forte. I’m honored and feel beyond lucky to have had the opportunity to contribe my work to this special publication along with other such talented cake artists from around the world. Two Birds There were two birds sat on a stone, Fa la la lal de, One flew away, and then there was one Fa la la lal de, The other bird flew after, And then there was none, Fa la la lal de, And so the stone was left alone, Fa la la la lal de. These are a few illustrations I have done lately that features in the bow hunting articles my brother writes for the New Zealand Outdoor Hunting Magazine.. The latest issue features my brother on the front cover with the No.1 Bow Hunting Fallow buck in NZ.
This is the middle tier of my brother's wedding cake I made this year.
I thought it would be interesting for people to see the stages of painting that goes into the hand-painted process with my cakes.. starting from a basic outline to a fully finished painted cake. It was an absolute pleasure being asked to create a wedding cake for Steph and Laurence for their stunning whimsical wedding in sunny Ohope, Whakatane. The colours and use of flowers were just flawless and were a huge vocal point in Steph and Laurence's Wedding. From the most incredible wedding arch, flowers in the bride's hair, to the table arrangements, flowers were bursting with colour. Beautiful bright dahlias, fresh roses and purple stocks were amongst the many blooms that were used for the floral arrangments. Steph and Laurence changed it up by having their wedding cake to be served as afternoon tea after the ceremony rather than dessert. I hand-painted a stylised two tiered cake with hot pink dahlias, blue hydrangeas with pink and mauve lisianthus. They chose two flavours, a delectable moist Lemon cake for one tier and the Double chocolate mud cake for the other. Ohope Beach could'nt of provided a better day for this couple. Michelle x Photographer | Swift N Click Cake | Sweet Deer Hand Painted Cakes Florist | Honeybee Wild Flowers Scott & Melissa's WeddingA magical setting for the winter wedding of Scott and Melissa was provided at Lake Okataina nestled amongst New Zealand’s rugged landscape and bushland. Their day was a beautiful winter’s day with a touch of rain and mist that only added to the magical atmosphere. Scott and Melissa wanted the rustic natural elements of the surroundings and native bushland to come through in all aspects of their wedding. Being Scott's sister I was honoured to be asked to create him and Melissa's wedding cake. They chose to have a three tiered cake in three different flavours; a decadent dark chocolate cake with an espresso infused buttercream, a moist white chocolate cake with a vanilla buttercream and a dark chocolate cake lathered with a mint buttercream. Both are huge lovers of the country and keen hunters, so Scott and Melissa’s wishes for their wedding cake were simply a deer/stag theme. They left the final design up to me so I was extremely lucky I was able to create something that I thought they would love and that complemented the rest of the decor and theme used in the rest of the wedding. The florist (mum) used natural fresh florals of silver sea holly, fine gum leaves and navy viburnum berries to make a wreath that decorated the base of the bottom tier. Scott and Melissa wanted to stick to the natural shades of greens and whites for their floral arrangements for both the bouquets and table-scapes. The simple wreath made around the cake was absolutely perfect. They chose Okataina Lodge to hold their wedding ceremony and reception. Looking out over the glossy lake surrounded by the native bushland, they had the perfect atmosphere they wished for. Michelle x Photographer | Swift N Click
Florist | Groom's mother Pauline and best friend Brenda Cake | Sweet Deer Hand Painted Cakes Hair | Pampurrs Hair Studio Venue | Okataina Lodge Terase's baby shower theme was vintage chic in shades of greens and mints.
Terase chose to have a gorgeous water-colour painted baby elephant on her cake, with a simple green border to tie in with her mint coloured theme. The flavour of choice was a decadent chocolate cake filled with a peanut butter ganache. I just loved the decor used to style her baby boy's shower, so much style and taste, it was an honor to make a cake for such a special occasion. Michelle x |
