Maternity leaveHi everyone, I'm currently now on maternity leave, taking a break to enjoy the arrival of our next addition that will be added to our beautiful family.. we are just so lucky. While I won't be taking on any cakes for the rest of the year, I have been working on a huge project for most of this year that I'm beyond excited to share with you all soon and that I'll be launching next year! Here's a few shots from our own maternity shoot. These stunning photos were taken on our family farm where my husband first proposed to me and where we had our wedding photos taken. So it was pretty special to then have our maternity shoot taken at this location again a few years later and by Whakatane's own photography by kushla. Photography | Photography by kushla

Jay and Ryan's intimate wedding was set on Taupo's serene waterfront. Foxes, bears and deer Oh My! I adored making this rustic inspired cake, the carved bark theme along with the hand carved initials tied in perfectly with their woodland wonderland they had created for their special day. I used Sweet sticks edible paint for the hand painting of the fondant. The flavours for their three tiered wedding cake were the ever popular fresh ginger, walnut & spiced carrot cake along with a decadent vanilla cake, lathered with white chocolate ganache throughout and topped with a thinly covered vanilla fondant. It was an absolute pleasure creating such a special cake for this couple, the bride was one of thee most patient and lovely brides I've ever dealt with. The photography was by Taupo's own krystle from Bespoke Photography, her level of talent just blew me away, she captured all the special moments from the day and her attention to detail was just beautiful... Enjoy! Couple | Jay & Ryan

Our setting is filled with warm and intense hues of orange, yellow and dark reds that bring lush and festival feel to the wild forest backdrop. The table is set among pine trees and features natural wood, organic shapes and rich colors. We focused on bringing artisan tableware to the bridal table, combining handmade black plates from ‘MooiMooi’ with beautiful Monmouth Studio glasses from ‘Tessuti’. No place cards here, everyone is welcome to sit wherever they like and enjoy the feast.” – Olga Vendors Photography & Creative Direction | Wild & Grace Styling | Wild & Yellow Props & Furniture |Two Foxes , The Pretty Prop Shop , Confetti Collection Gown | Rue De Seine Grooms Attire | Working Style Lux-knit headpiece | Beyond the Forest Cake | Sweet Deer Hand Painted Cakes Makeup | Olga Gill Hair | Kelly Manu Glasses |Tessuti Plates | MooiMooi Tent | Taylor Bell Tents Flowers | Wild Floral Co Stationery | Harlan Creative Models | Katherine and Julien from Red11 I Love that I get to show off this truely stunning shoot! Nestled in on our home town beach of coastlands in whakatane, Bay of Plenty. I sooo enjoyed having a different colour palette to use for this shoot, it defintely brought me out of my comfort zone and got me thinking! I got to have such a play with different looks and textures for the cake table... from ombre ruffles to pastel blue painted florals to regal navy and silver leaf, it was all so different. I used the blue range of paints from Sweet Sticks Edible Art Paints, they are such super easy paints to use and dry so quick you never have to worry about smudging and smears when packaging and moving your cakes from A to B (Especially when you have half a dozen to move!) I was blown away with how the combination of sea shells and flowers together on the cakes and table really complimented each other. The photography captured that gorgeous winter afternoon light perfectly, giving such a dramatic and powerful to each and every piece from this shoot. So many shots to look at from this epic shoot, enjoy! The order was a double chocolate mud cake, black glittered fondant and black buttercream. I used the scrummy Glossy Black fudge frosting from Sweetapolita. I had so many wonderful comments on this frosting, it was just devine! Only thing you have to prepare for when using this black frosting is that everyones teeth and lips were momentarily black ha ha! You can colour this frosting to any colour it wouldnt have to be black! Glossy Black Fudge Frosting
Glossy Black Fudge Frosting Add all of the ingredients, except the melted chocolate and black food color, into the food processor, and pulse until everything is incorporated. Add the melted chocolate and pulse until smooth. Add a small amount of the black color (about 1 teaspoon). Pulse until combined. Let sit for about 15 minutes (the color will take awhile to process--it's best to let it sit rather than adding more and more right away). Add more color if necessary, until desired black tint is achieved. Steve & Amy's Wedding Steve & Amy's wedding was held in a beautiful marquee situated in Kutarere, about a 20 minute drive out of whakatane. The vendors involved in this wedding were just out of this world, one of the most amazing weddings I have seen and been apart of in my little caking career. When it came to making the Wedding cake, Amy was so easy to deal with she made it an absolute dream. Top tier | Subtle soft pink and white marble Middle tier | Pink ombre Bottom tier | hand-painted with a beautiful deep gold Topped off with gold leaf and a few stunning peonies, subtle magic. The Catering I have to say was one of the most freshest most gorgeous food I have ever seen at a wedding. From the fresh honeycombed topped camembert cheeses, to the beautiful meringues served along with dessert everything was just WOW! The styling was sensational as always by Casey and her team at The Heirloom, Ternaniums filled with flower posey's and metallic details thoughout brought everything together. The venue was filled with florals, from the floor to the ceiling by HoneyBee Wild Florist, Peonies, roses and proteas were highlighted everywhere bringing the whole venue to life. Amazing fresh photography by one of the Bay's best with Swift & Click, capturing all the beautiful moments of their day. Congrats Mr & Mrs Nelson xx Catering | Blank Canvas Catering

I really enjoyed painting this particular cake, everything just seemed to flow perfectly and come togther nicely. I always paint my cakes or painting on canvas for that mattelayer by layer, gradually building up as i go. Ive tried doing it other ways with my painting technique but just cant seem to do it any other way! This one flew all the way from Whakatane Bay Of Plenty to Nelson in the South Island. It arrived in perfect condition ready for the birthday bash! Fondant: Bakels Paints: Wilton Gels Paintbrush: Anything will do! This metallic beauty was made for a super glam Great Gatsby themed Birthday bash, held at Trinity Wharf in Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty, I loved everything that went into making this cake, it would be one of my favourites to date so far! Casey is a stylist for weddings and all events here in the Bay Of Plenty, she has so much taste and such an eye for detail, I jumped at the chance to make her 30th birthday cake, getting to make such a modern glam cake I had a ball. Top tier | Tied with beautiful black ribbons. Middle Tier | Black pettinice fondant, scattered with gold leaf scattered. The bottom tier | Rifle paper themed florals, hand painted using the amazing edible art paint. Flavours | Pink Lemonade & Pretty Vanilla Cake | Sweet Deer Hand-Painted Cakes
Florals | Honeysuckle & Rose Photographer | Erica Jane Photography Styling Props | The Heirloom Styled by Casey from the Heirloom Adam & Michaela Gorgeous vibrant bright flowers were the showstopper for this beautiful wedding held at Bay Of Plentys Ataahua Garden Venue. To achieve this design I firstly hand painted all the outlines of the flowers onto my blank fondant canvas. I then hand painted each of the Dahlias, roses, ranunculus and tulips, matching in with the colours of the flowers used on the table settings and girls bouquets.. probably one of my most challenging cakes I've painted so far! The flavours were double chocolate mud cake with a chocolate buttercream, lemon Devine cake with a zesty lemon buttercream and chocolate mud cake with a mint flavoured buttercream. The wedding cake was served as the main dessert with raspberry compote and freshly whipped cream yum!
